MARBLEHEAD — Hundreds of people took to the Old Town Marblehead streets to participate in the Marblehead Rotary Club 5k on Sunday.
The Rotary Club is a global network that contains 1.4 million people who believe in creating lasting change from around the world to small town communities. The many clubs work together to promote peace, fight disease, support education and the environment, and much more.
The proceeds from this run were to help support different Rotary Club projects, one being project “Inner Explorer” a mindfulness program to support mental health and wellbeing for the Marblehead youth. The project provides students with life skills to help manage anxiety, stress, and depression.
“Inner Explorer” is used across the nation in more than 5,000 schools, reaching more than one million students. Since the project began, research has shown an improvement in attendance, higher test scores, and overall better behavior.
The race began at the Boston Yacht Club and ended at Crocker Park where runners enjoyed a hot dog, some warm chowder, and cookies after completing the run. There was also an awards ceremony in the Boston Yacht Club clubhouse.
