SWAMPSCOTT — Residents are invited to Swampscott High School on the night of Monday, Sept. 16 for the first of Swampscott For All Ages’ four-part series titled “Paths to Housing as We Age… a Changing Landscape.”

The first event, called “Aging in Place,” will feature four guest speakers with various backgrounds and experiences related to the topic. AARP of Massachusetts Aging Friendly Director Antron Watson is slated to speak on the ways seniors can modify their homes to make it easier to live in them.

Watson will be followed by Joanne Tuller, a member of the nonprofit Sharing Housing’s board of directors, who will discuss home sharing. Swampscott Senior Center Assistant Director Sabrina Clopton will introduce the concept of a community board that will aim to centralize the needs and potential solutions for those with housing difficulties.

Lastly, attendees will hear from Seaglass Village Vice President Israella Abrams, who will describe the benefits of being a member of groups such as Seaglass, in which seniors support each other.

“We have a lot of people who are aging and they want to stay in their home,” Swampscott Director of Aging Services Heidi Whear said. “We’re hoping this series will offer some creative options on how people can do some home sharing or create an ADU (accessory dwelling unit).”

“Aging in Place” will be moderated by Select Board member Doug Thompson, who is also the CEO of the Lynn-based nonprofit health-care organization Element Care.

“Ensuring sufficient, appropriate, and affordable housing for our growing senior population is a top priority for the Select Board,” Thompson said.

He encouraged everyone to attend the upcoming series, regardless of their age.

The other seminars are currently scheduled for Sept. 30, Oct. 7, and Oct. 21.
