LYNN — Community members and local officials will gather to celebrate the new monument marking the Senator Walter K. Boverini Scenic Walkway. Boverini served in the Legislature from 1970 to 1994 and was a World War II Air Force veteran. The Department of Conservation and Recreation recently added the monument on the walkway at Red Rock Park.
The celebration will take place at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at Red Rock Park on the walking path along Lynn Shore Drive.
Boverini was a lifelong Lynn resident, returning home after his military career to work as a teacher, coach, vice principal, and mentor at all of Lynn’s high schools. He was inducted into the Lynn Classical Hall of Fame in 1996 and the Lynn English Hall of Fame in 2003. After one term as a state representative for the 9th Essex District, he ran for state Senate and won in 1972. He served as Senate majority leader from 1985 until his retirement in 1994.
