Boys & Girls Club of Lynn provdes expanded programming

[ad_1]

The Boys & Girls Club of Lynn is providing expanded programming and opportunities for teen members again this summer, with help from a state grant.

The Boys & Girls Club received a $25,000 grant through the Department of Conservation and Recreation’s Summer Teen Nights program. The club is using the funding to provide programming for teens four days a week from 4 to 9 p.m. There are also special events every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The activities offered include basketball, swimming, soccer, movie nights, STEAM nights, e-sports, college readiness, and community service. The program is free to members ages 13 to 18.

“We are grateful to receive this funding from the state,” Boys & Girls Club Executive Director Brian Therrien said. “It is more important than ever that we provide our members, especially teens, with a range of activities and programs that give them reasons to come to the club during the summer.”

The DCR Summer Nights program was launched in 2015 to provide people between the ages of 13 and 21 in urban areas the opportunity to enjoy recreational and educational activities during evening hours.

Recognizing the tremendous success of this program, and the safe, inclusive, and fun events it provides for young people, it has been significantly expanded over the past 10 years.

This summer, DCR is partnering with 100 organizations to provide recreational programming to urban youth at approximately 125 locations statewide.

The program started June 24 and runs through Aug. 23.
