LAWRENCE — Oh, how things change.
Week 1 of the high school football season was night-and-day for Lynn English after last year’s 27-0 loss to Lawrence at Manning Field. This time around, in head coach Tyllor McDonald’s first game, his Bulldogs took down the same opponent, 28-14, for a season-opening victory.
“My first win as a head coach,” said McDonald, a Lynn English football alumnus. “It feels good.”
Adding that Friday night’s recipe was “a little bit of everything,” the box score backs it up.
Xavier Beauchamp carried the ball 14 times for nearly 100 yards. Better yet, he entered the endzone for two touchdowns rushing. Limbert Thomas (carry, 13 yards) rushed for another score.
“Our running game was clicking,” McDonald said.
They weren’t bad through the air, either. Shane Knowlton-Simard hauled in a long touchdown pass from Jaiden Rosario. On the defensive end, English left Lawrence with two interceptions and “just a ton of tackles.”
“I’ve been here for nine months and I have a great group of guys who want to be coached,” McDonald said. “I told them it was going to be a dog fight, but my guys showed up and got the W.”
