You know what I’ve been thinking? There are more than 50,000 people in the City of Peabody, but, somehow, Raphel Laurent stuck out amongst the rest this week.
The boys basketball star played in three games for the Tanners and – spoiler alert – put on a show for three games.
In a 67-40 win against Triton to kick things off, do-it-all Laurent did a little bit of everything. His 23 points jumped out, but he also registered five steals, five rebounds, and four assists.
Then, the big one. Peabody took care of Swampscott, 69-48, a few days later behind Laurent’s 34 points, six rebounds, six steals, and five assists. He hit seven from downtown, too.
The latest double-digit win for the Tanners came against Salem, and – for his standards – a semi-quiet 22 points led Peabody’s charge.
With the sharpshooter doing his thing, Thad Broughton’s Tanners are 7-1 and looking good in the new year.
The action continues against another strong team, Marblehead, at 7 p.m. on Monday. Will Laurent shine in enemy territory, or Magicians hold their own?
Raphel, good week.
