Athlete of the Week - Connie Patturelli - Peabody girls soccer

You know what I’ve been thinking? Scoring 50 percent of your team’s goals isn’t too shabby.

Do-it-all Connie Patturelli netted six of her team’s 12 goals to complete a 2-1-1 stretch for Peabody’s girls soccer team.

In a 1-1 tie against Marblehead, Patturelli tucked a long-distance goal to give Peabody the lead in a defensive thriller. The ball went up and over the outstretched arms of Magicians’ goalie Hailey Gilmore.

“Connie is basically my quarterback out there,” said Peabody coach Andrew Douglass. “Offensively, we look to her to find the right pass or in a game like today, be the difference-maker. Today, she stole the ball and had a great finish on the goal.”

Fast forward to a 2-0 win against Swampscott. Patturelli netted another goal to help squash the Big Blue.

But her shining moments came in Friday’s 9-1 win against Winthrop. The senior, who has committed to playing Division 2 soccer at Saint Anselm College, scored four goals to go with an assist.

Yes, a five-point game to polish off a seven-point week.

“Her partner up top, Ally Bettencourt, works really well with her, as does Brooke Lomasney in the midfield,” Douglass said. “Ally and Connie are like a dynamic duo out there and really do a great job supporting each other and bringing out the best in one another and the team.”

Peabody’s only loss last week came to Lincoln-Sudbury in a 3-0 final. The Tanners visit Beverly at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Connie, good week.
