CHESTNUT HILL — Stu Primus, a legendary Lynn Classical athlete (‘81) who won state championships in football and basketball, was recognized at Boston College’s 54th Varsity Club Hall-of-Fame banquet Friday night.

Primus (‘85), who suited up for BC’s men’s basketball team, will forever be a part of the Wall of Fame on the west concourse of Conte Forum. He finished his career with 568 points (shooting 48.8 percent from the floor), 192 rebounds, 115 assists, and 87 steals. He was selected in the sixth round of the 1985 NBA Draft by the Indiana Pacers.

He dedicated the recognition to his mother, Idella Berry Primus.

“She was the mother of six and I was the first to go to college and graduate,” he said. “People would always tell her that her son was doing good things. When she passed in 2009, I spoke to some people and this woman grabbed my hand and said, ‘I’m sorry for the loss of your Mom, but I’ve got to tell you, I’m 70-something years old and I’ve never heard anybody – and I mean anybody – say anything bad about your mother.’

“I made her so proud and that made me so proud,” said Primus, who received more than 200 college offer letters.

BC’s Senior Associate Athletic Director, Jamie DiLoreto, was speaking with Primus about alumni relations last year.

“He goes, ‘Well, you’re in the Hall-of-Fame, right?’” Primus said. “I said no. He said he would nominate me.”

A year later, Primus is a Hall-of-Fame Eagle.

“It’s really not about me being in the Hall-of-Fame,” he said. “But for my Mom, she wanted me to have this, so this is dedicated to her.”

Other inductees were Jo-Lonn Dunbar (’08, football), Kristin Igoe (’12, women’s lacrosse), Drew Locke (’05, baseball), Kristen Madden (’06, field hockey), Maria Montuori (’87, women’s soccer), Rob Scuderi (’01, men’s ice hockey), and Elizabeth Walker (’96, softball).
