Friday marked Lynn Tech’s turn to play in the State Vocational High School Basketball Tournament. The No. 4 girls met their match in Bay Path, but the top-seeded boys advanced to Sunday’s championship game with a win against Monty Tech.
In the 71-55 win for the boys, host Tech was led by a versatile big three in Giovanni Jean (19 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists), Ederick Gonzalez (18 points, 9 assists, 3 rebounds), and Jayden Welch (16 points, 5 rebounds).
With their raucous crowd and energetic playstyle, the Tigers return home for Sunday’s vocational title game against Shawsheen at 4 p.m.
As for the girls, they lost 68-43 after trailing 36-13 at halftime.
Despite the loss, positives were aplenty. Allison Morales led the charge with 20 points, seven rebounds, and two assists, followed by Engelyz Bingham (14 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals) and Aliyah Volquez (8 points, 4 rebounds).
After Friday’s action, Corey Bingham’s boys stand at 17-2, while Kaitlyn Wechsler’s girls check in at 14-7 ahead of Saturday’s MIAA state tournament bracket releases.
