Team of the Week - Bishop Fenwick girls basketball

You know what I’ve been thinking? The Bishop Fenwick girls basketball team may be ineligible for the state tournament, but it’s hard to imagine coach Adam DeBaggis and company viewing this season as anything but a success.

Due to the MIAA’s decision to ban all Fenwick teams from state tournaments this year, the 17-3 Crusaders have no championship endgame.

Spoiler alert: that didn’t stop them from making the most of things.

Fenwick took care of traditional archrival St. Mary’s (No. 5 in D3), Woburn (No. 5 in D1), and Medfield (No. 1 in D2) this week.

Not bad, huh?

The Black and Gold were crowned Comcast Tournament champions with Cecilia Kay (26 points, 14 rebounds, 3 blocks) leading the charge in the title game against Medfield (49-45).

Alongside Celia Neilson, “seniors Isabella Lopez-Marin, Tess Keenan, Kate McPhail, and Sam Dormer were also great in the win,” according to DeBaggis.

Kay and Neilson made the all-tournament team to boot.

And if you ask DeBaggis about his team, this next statement sums it up:

“Fenwick finishes the season 17-3 and the best team in Division 2,” he said.
