Parent hopes to give kids 'a good Christmas'

[ad_1]

While for many around the world, Christmas is a time of cheer, joy, and gifts, some people cannot participate in gift-giving traditions due to mental-health struggles.

According to the American Psychological Association, 38% of people surveyed said their stress increased during the holiday season, which can lead to “physical illness, depression, anxiety, and substance misuse.” The reasons given include lack of time, financial pressure, gift-giving, and family gatherings.

“It’s been a hard year due to some mental-health challenges,” one parent who wrote to Item Santa said. “I’ve been unable to work and I would be grateful for the help to get my two daughters some gifts. They have been very good this year. Thank you Item Santa for helping to give them a good Christmas.”

With this final request for help, we bid goodbye to you as this year’s Item Santa wraps up. Now in its 57th year, the Item Santa fund helps to make Christmas brighter for those in need. To donate, clip the coupon in The Item and mail it, along with your check, to The Item Salvation Army Santa, 85 Exchange St., Lynn, MA 01901.

There is also a way to donate online through the Salvation Army at http://itemlive.com/itemsanta .

All donations are listed in Item print editions through the month of December and into 2024, along with a brief message from each donor, if desired.

NOTE: The application period for aid from Item Santa has closed and The Item does not process applicants. All questions about the program and distribution of gifts should be directed to the Salvation Army at 781-598-0673.
