LYNN – Today, IUE-CWA Local 201 endorsed Sen. Ed Markey for re-election to the Senate, backing a proven champion for union workers whose work strengthens American manufacturing and protects our national security.
“Generations of Local 201 families have built the aircraft engines at River Works that serve our nation, and today our unionized members are helping build the next-generation engine for the Army’s Black Hawk and Apache helicopters,” said Adam Kaszynski, President of IUE-CWA Local 201. “Senator Ed Markey understands that protecting these union jobs and keeping this critical manufacturing in Lynn are economic and national security priorities. Year after year, he has fought for federal investment in the T901 program and for that work to stay in Lynn. Senator Markey has proven he will fight for Local 201, and we are proud to endorse him.”
Chartered in Lynn in 1933 and headquartered in the city ever since, IUE-CWA Local 201 represents more than 1,500 workers across Massachusetts. Today, Local 201 machinists and aircraft engine assemblers perform critical work on projects including the T901 engine for the U.S. Army’s Improved Turbine Engine Program.
Local 201 also represents operators at the Lynn Wastewater Treatment Plant, librarians at Saugus Public Library, workers at Ametek Aerospace in Wilmington, and rental agents and shuttlers at Avis Budget and FleetLogix locations across Greater Boston and Logan Airport.
“Local 201 proves that strong unions, strong American manufacturing, and strong national security go hand in hand,” said Sen. Ed Markey. “For generations, families in Lynn have built the helicopter and jet engines that power and protect our nation. I am honored to earn the endorsement of these skilled union workers, and I will always fight to protect their jobs, strengthen their collective bargaining rights, receive the pay, benefits, and respect they deserve.”
Sen. Markey has consistently advocated for federal investment in the Improved Turbine Engine Program and for the T901 engine to be manufactured by GE workers in Lynn.
This year, Sen. Markey called on congressional appropriators to increase funding for the program. He has also pressed GE leadership to invest in the long-term future of River Works, including its potential as an advanced “brilliant factory” and offshore wind manufacturing hub.
