SALEM — Who said fireworks needed to end Saturday? They continued on the diamond Sunday as a pair of Swampscott Little League teams secured impressive wins.
Swampscott’s 11-year-old All-Star team invaded Forest River Park and blanked host Salem, 3-0. Connor Dunham, Wilson Neville (RBI), and Jack Dolan recorded hits, while Joey Caponigro and Mason Medeiros compiled RBI. All three runs were scored in the fourth inning.
Owen Zalanowski (6 K) and Neville (3) combined for nine punchouts. The game ball belonged to Dolan, who made a pair of ground outs, three pop-fly outs, and a diving catch in foul territory.
“A SportsCenter Top 10 type play,” said Swampscott manager Danny Blake, referring to Dolan’s diving snag.
Earlier in the afternoon, Swampscott’s 10-year-old All-Star team cruised past Peabody, 11-1, in Salem.
Declan Houlihan (6 K) pitched well across three innings of relief for Peabody. Noah Duran played “standout” defense at shortstop, according to Peabody manager Derek Cassista.
