SAUGUS — The Saugus Public Library is giving children a boost this summer by continuing its summer reading program, designed to reduce the “summer slide,” which is the learning loss experienced between school years that can leave students behind their peers.
This year’s summer reading will be Pokémon-themed, titled “Gotta Read ’em All.”
The program, available for students from pre-K to 6th grade, will run from Monday to Friday, Aug. 21, with children getting the chance to earn prizes for their reading.
All readers will earn prizes, including raffle vouchers for ice cream, pizza, roller skating, mini golf, bowling, and more. The grand prize ticket drawings include tickets to Canobie Lake Park and Nova Adventure Park.
To participate, children can be registered on the Beanstack app or at Beanstack.com. Registration can also be done in person with a paper reading log.
The library recommends that children read at least 20 minutes a day, with parents also reading to them, even as they become independent readers.
To find step-by-step instructions on how to register, go to the library’s website.
