LYNN — The Agganis All-Star Game lineup still includes nine games, but this year, for the first time, all the action will take place in one weekend.
The Agganis All-Star Girls and Boys Basketball games will be played at Lynn Classical High School on Saturday, June 27 at 4 and 5:15 p.m. The next day, all the action shifts to the Agganis Athletic Complex – Manning and Fraser fields – with seven games and an awards ceremony on tap starting with the girls lacrosse game at 10 a.m. and concluding with the football game at 6:30 p.m.
The awards ceremony, at which the 2026 Agganis Foundation Scholarship recipients will be recognized and five major awards will be presented, will be at 6 p.m., immediately before the football game.
“We have toyed with the idea of consolidating the games into one or two days for several years now,” said Paul Halloran, co-director of the Agganis All-Star Games, along with Jeff Newhall. “Jeff came up with a viable schedule to play everything on one weekend, so we are going to try that and see how it goes.”
Tickets for the Agganis All-Star Games are $10 for adults, $7 for students and senior citizens, and are available at agganisfoundation.com. Tickets will also be sold at the gate.
The Agganis Foundation also announced the addition of Wellpoint as the principal sponsor of the All-Star Games and presenting sponsor of the football game. Wellpoint is a health benefits company serving Massachusetts state and municipal employees, retirees, and their families through the Group Insurance Commission (GIC).
Wellpoint General Manager David Morales is a Lynn native who played in the 1993 Agganis All-Star Football Game after graduating from Lynn Classical and before moving on to Bowdoin College, where he also played football.
“As a former Agganis All-Star Game participant and scholarship recipient, I know firsthand the impact this program can have on a young person’s life,” Morales said. “Opportunities like these help student-athletes grow not only in their sport, but also as leaders and members of their communities. These experiences reinforce the importance of physical, mental, and social well-being while creating pathways for future success. Wellpoint is proud to support programs that help young people reach their full potential both on and off the field.”
The Agganis All-Star Games are played in memory of legendary Lynn athlete Harry Agganis, an All-American quarterback at Lynn Classical and Boston University. He was expected to be the first-round draft pick of the Cleveland Browns, but he opted for a professional baseball career and was the starting first baseman for the Boston Red Sox when he died of a pulmonary embolism in 1955 at the age of 26.
The Agganis Foundation was formed shortly thereafter with a mission of awarding college scholarships in Agganis’ name. Since 1955, the Foundation has awarded almost $2.68 million in scholarships to 1,086 student-athletes. The Agganis All-Star Games serve as a fundraiser for the scholarship program.
