LYNN – Superintendent Molly Cohen has appointed Jason McCuish principal of Lynn Vocational Technical Institute. McCuish had been serving as vice principal under Fred Gallo, who is retiring.
A lifelong resident and Lynn Public Schools graduate, McCuish has worked in the district for 23 years, as a teacher, department head, SkillsUSA advisor, Instructional Leadership chair, and vice principal.
“Lynn Tech is more than a school; it is my home,” McCuish said. “I look forward to this opportunity to continue the great work at LVTI, and I am humbled to lead with an unwavering commitment and dedication to students and families.”
As an LPS student, McCuish went to Drewicz Elementary, Breed Middle and graduated from Classical High School. McCuish earned a bachelor’s degree at UMass Boston and a master’s at Salem State University. He taught in LPS for three years before going to LVTI in 2005. He worked as an English teacher and department head before becoming vice principal in January 2025.
“Mr. McCuish is a skilled leader whose extensive experience at LVTI makes him the right person to lead the school at this time,” Cohen said. “He is well-positioned to continue the momentum at LVTI, providing academic and vocational instruction to a growing number of students.”
Throughout his career, McCuish has been committed to strengthening the culture and traditions at LVTI, leading schoolwide initiatives focused on reading, writing, school improvement, community engagement and service. He has helped provide innovative experiences that have connected academic learning and career and technical education to the greater Lynn community.
McCuish is known for his dedication to student leadership development and community connections. As a longtime SkillsUSA advisor and recipient of the National SkillsUSA Advisor of the Year award, he has led students to earn local, state, and national recognition. McCuish has also won Congressman Seth Moulton’s Peter Gomes Award, recognizing constituents who demonstrate integrity, compassion, and commitment to their communities, and the Volunteer Service Award, issued by the president of the United States since 2012.
“I bring a love of Lynn, LVTI, and service to the school and community to this position,” McCuish said. “I believe strongly in how the combination of vocational and academic education provides pathways to student success.”
