Roundup: Perfect 10s for Saugus

With its 10th win of the season, Saugus’ softball team (10-10) qualified for the state tournament for the 10th consecutive year. The visiting Sachems handled Swampscott 14-2 Thursday.

“Tens all around,” said Saugus coach Steve Almquist. “I couldn’t be more happy and proud of the kids. We have a really young team this year and started three eighth graders.”

Sofia McCarrier (2 H, 2 ER, 6 K) tossed a complete game, while the offensive load was led by Ari Chianca (3 H), Sydney Deleidi (4-for-5, RBI, 3 R), Aubrey DeMonte (2-for-4, 3 RBI), Layla DeMonte (2-for-3, 2 RBI), Hannah Strout (H), and Angie Dow (2B, 2 RBI).

“Credit to the kids and the assistant coaches,” said Almquist, whose group compiled 18 hits.
