The boys and girls cross country teams from St. Mary’s each took home fifth place in Thursday’s Catholic Central League Championship Meet at Franklin Park. Kelsey Kwiatek ran to a first-place finish (19:47) and was also named Most Valuable Player in the conference.

Nina Lopes (30th, 24:24) and Chloe Mahoney (53rd, 27:01) followed with strong performances. On the boys’ side, Lucian Paula (6th, 19:04), Cristian Rodriguez (16th, 20:38), Savas Trellopoulos (35th, 21:08), and Xavier Paula (37th, 21:13) led the Spartans.

Swampscott visited Marblehead Thursday evening, but returned home empty-handed in set scores of 17-25, 19-25, and 18-25. Leading the Big Blue were Reese Schaiberger (4 kills, 14 assists, 4 digs, 5 service points), Yanielis Pizarro (5 kills), and Marta Sirota (13 digs).

On Marblehead’s side, Lila Moniz led the offense with 13 kills, while Greta Sachs and Sammy Walker each added another eight. Setter Erin Wilder ended the evening with 20 assists.

Despite a few standout performances from Tech, the Tigers met their match against Innovation in scores of 25-27, 17-25, and 22-25. Zahara Belizaire (11 assists, 11 digs), Lia Morales (16 digs, 3 kills), Ana Godoy (17 digs), and Niya Bingham (6 kills) led the way,

The visiting Spartans (9-11) closed out their season the right way in scores of 25-23, 26-24, 23-25, and 25-22. Kyra Lominy (14 aces), Ava Kidd, and Mia DeVoe delivered strong play.

Pentucket 0

Lynnfield (12-3-3) took down Pentucket at Pioneer Stadium behind two goals from Charlie Morgan and another from Matt Reinold (2 assists). Joel Anthony picked up an assist on Reinold’s goal.

“Charlie is a senior and these were his first two goals,” said Lynnfield coach Brent Munroe. “He’s been a good player for a long time. It’s just that he’s a defender. We moved him up today and that was good to see.”

In a scoreless showdown at Glatz Field in Danvers, St. John’s Prep goalies Ceyln Heslin and Matt Droggitis combined for the shutout. Senior midfielder Jack Quigley, as well as senior wingers Jack Neal and Matt Foley played well for the Eagles, according to coach David Crowell.
