LYNN — Lifelong resident Harold W. “Sammy” Samuelson was joined by his children and their spouses at Pellana Prime Steakhouse in Peabody to celebrate his 90th birthday on Friday, Oct. 18.

He has seven children — six daughters and one son — as well as 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Samuelson retired as a lieutenant with the Lynn Fire Department, was an honored veteran of the U.S. Navy, and served on the Lynn Cemetery Commission.

He was a gifted athlete in track and field and is a member of the Lynn Classical Hall of Fame. Three of his children, Brenda Martin, Harold “Mugsie” Samuelson, and Melanie (Samuelson) Fleming, are in the Lynn English Hall of Fame.

Samuelson is the son of former Lynn residents Samuel and Eleanor Samuelson, owners of Sammy’s Oil Company.
