SAUGUS — The Saugus Public Library, in conjunction with New Friends of the Saugus Public Library, presents author and “Chronicle” journalist Ted Reinstein, who will be giving a talk on his newest book, “Travels Through the Heart and Soul of New England: Stories of Struggle, Resilience, and Triumph,” on Oct. 8.
After 25 years of reporting around New England, he’s taken his stories and put them into one single book for people to enjoy.
According to a press release, the story is “a journey through the heart and soul of New England, meeting the most memorable people – and their unlikely stories – all along the way.”
He hopes to portray “New England in a whole new light, through the stories of some everyday Americans you’ll never forget,” the press release said.
Reinstein is a local New Englander hailing from Winthrop and has a great understanding of the area thanks to his roots and his travels.
Library Director Alan Thibeault said in an email to The Item, “I believe you get a better take on New England destinations from a local; they generally know the places better than someone from another part of the country and can provide a ‘native context’ to the information.”
Reinstein is excited to share his work with the people of Saugus as book talks give him the opportunity to have a direct interaction with the people he’s speaking to.
“What I love most about doing book talks is the immediacy and intimacy of talking with interested people in one room in real time,” Reinstein said in an email to The Item.
The talk will take place in the Community room. The space for the event is limited, and the library asks that people register on their website or call 781-231-4169 ext. 3107.
