Swampscott Arts on display at the YMCA

LYNN — The halls of the Demakes Family YMCA will be decorated with various works by the Swampscott Arts Association through Oct. 17.

Seventeen of the more than 60 members of the association are represented in this member art show, which is taking place at the YMCA’s Neptune Boulevard location for the first time. Mediums include photography, digital print, watercolor, acrylic, and oil paintings.

“We’re basically open to any 2D artform,” Association Board member Larry Dunn said.

Dunn expressed his satisfaction with how the exhibit came together at the YMCA and the feedback it has garnered.

“I’ve heard from membership directors that the patrons of the Y love to see the artwork on the walls,” Dunn said. “Lots of people come by.”

Dunn has two of his photographs on display, one of the headlight of a bright orange Corvette and The Broad Art Museum in Los Angeles. Association Secretary Susan Burgess has two paintings depicting seaside scenes.

“You don’t have to jury in here,” Burgess said. “It’s the only one I know that doesn’t require it.”

She added that despite the inclusiveness the Association’s sign-up policies promote, the quality of artwork remains extremely high in her opinion.

Dunn hopes the exhibit inspires onlookers artistically. Each piece of art on display can be purchased by contacting the Association via email.

The association will maintain its Lynn presence later this year with an exhibit at City Hall in November.
