WEEKEND ROUNDUP: Woods scores 200th win for Fenwick football

Bishop Fenwick football coach Dave Woods secured win No. 200 – all with the Crusaders – on Saturday as his team cruised past Bishop Stang, 39-7, at Donaldson Stadium in Peabody.

Good teams start early, and the 2-0 Crusaders did just that with Lincoln Dugan taking a punt return 38 yards early. Dylan Patturelli pushed one in from a yard out to make 13-0 after one quarter.

Brayden Clifford spotted Tyler Connolly for a 20-yard score in the second, but Stang’s Luke Oliviera responded with his own touchdown to cut the lead to 20-7.

After a Connolly rushing touchdown and Clifford finding Odin Garron for 44 yards, the hosts expanded their lead to 32-7 after three. Just to make sure, Craig Masone bolted for a 70-yard rushing score in the fourth quarter.

Aidan Silva connected on two extra-point attempts for Fenwick, which returns home Friday against Wilmington at 7 p.m.

BOYS SOCCER

St. Mary’s 1
Lynnfield 1

Two strong programs played to a 1-1 tie at Manning Field Saturday in non-conference action. Eider Solis netted a penalty-kick goal in the final minute for the Spartans, while Rocco Scenna found the back of the net for the Pioneers.

GIRLS SOCCER

Danvers 3
Marblehead 1

Callie Gilmore scored a goal for Marblehead (2-2-3) with an assist coming from Lucy Church, but that’s all the Magicians got in this one. Hailey Gilmore (6 saves) and Lily Heller (5) combined for 11 saves.

“Lily Heller made a fantastic save on a breakaway in the first half,” said coach Lisa Wales. “Ainsley MacDonald and Ava Machado continue to be solid on defense, but Danvers’ offense was a bit too much for us.”

Peabody 1
North Andover 0

Connie Patturelli slotted the lone goal of the game as the Tanners took care of North Andover in a Sunday matinee.

According to Peabody coach Andrew Douglass, Ally Bettencourt played well at both striker and center back, while Brooke Lomasney, Maggie Jolin, and Emma Wardle were “solid in the midfield.” Cara Corriveau and Marley Loring “came up huge for us on defense.”

CROSS COUNTRY

Bishop Fenwick’s junior girls placed second and fourth in the Frank Kelley Invitational, with Marianna Kay catching eyes with a fourth-place finish at the Wrentham Development Center.

According to Fenwick coach Fred Doyle, Kay was leading the pack throughout the 3K race until the final 400 meters. Caroline Blatchford also medaled in 18th, followed by Mireille Climenson (38th), Kelsey Boe (58th), and Nora Bonner (61st).

King Philip took the cake as a team, while Fenwick was without Julia Davis (calf injury), who typically runs with Kay.

Fenwick’s sophomore girls placed fourth behind medalists Adelaide Sweatman (5th) and Olivia Rowe (13th). Team-scorers included Amanda Moric (48th), Mikayla Micieli (93rd), and Noelle Waterman (102nd).

On the boys’ side, Fenwick’s juniors raced to a third-place finish after a fine showing from medalist Sam Appleyard (21st). He was followed by twin brother Doron (35th), John Reilly (39th), Nondas Lagonakis (54th), and Liam Sullivan (66th).

Lynnfield’s girls ran well at the Kelley Meet with Abby Lopez leading the way in 25th to medal. Shealyn Moore ran her first race after a three-and-a-half month recovery process from an injury.

“She (Lopez) ran the fastest time for the team today with a 13:24 for a 3K,” said coach Liane Cook.

For the boys, Lynnfield’s Shea McCarthy and Dylan Nguyen recorded times of 10:14.55 and 10:29.12, respectively, for 12th and 13th place.
