A first-half strike from Kacper Kowalczyk proved to be the difference in Peabody’s 1-0 win over Haverhill. 

Head coach Stan McKeen praised his team’s defense on the night. 

“The Tanners played their best defensive game of the season,” McKeen said. 

Luke Murray, Marshall Simpson, Fabio Goulart,  and Derek Collins were “outstanding” according to McKeen. Dylan Flanagan also played great in goal. 

Peabody will move on to Gloucester on Wednesday. 

BOYS SOCCER

Beverly 1

Marblehead 0

The Magicians were close to holding out for a draw, but a counter-attacking goal from the Panthers earned them the win. 

“We missed our chances, and Beverly scored in a quick counterattack with 10 minutes left,” Marblehead coach Elmer Magaña said. 

Injuries hurt Marblehead on the night as two starting defenders were injured and its winger also got hurt in the game. 

Marblehead will host Saugus on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs battled it out at Manning Field and earned a 1-1 draw against Chelsea. Lynn English’s Marly Perez was on the scoresheet for Lynn English. The goal was assisted by Brianna Ortega.

Lynn English is back in action against Everett on Thursday at 5:45. 

Swampscott 0

Gloucester 0

If you can’t score, it’s best to make sure your opponents don’t score either. The Big Blue made the journey to Gloucester and returned home with a draw. 

Eve Byrne was in goal and played well keeping a clean sheet. 

Marblehead 1

Beverly 1

After a scoreless half, thanks to a great save from Marblehead’s Hailey Gilmore, the Magicians got on the scoreboard first in the second half through a goal from Sadie Halpern. Halpern’s goal was assisted by Liv Carlson. 

20 minutes later, Beverly found an equalizer through a free kick. 

Lucy McDonald, Courtney Hitscherich, and Halpern were all “strong contributors” according to head coach Lisa Wales. 

Lynn Tech 6

In a high-scoring game at Manning, the Tigers came out on top. 

Angie Niz scored a hattrick, while Daily Lopez, and Stephany Menedez scored one each. 

Cindy De Leon scored the sixth goal and game-winner for the Tigers. 

Lynn Tech will go into its next game on Monday in high spirits against KIPP at 4 p.m.

Senior Brooke Moloney led by example on Monday evening. Under the lights, Moloney shined, scoring three goals en route to a win over the Cougars.

It was a scoreless draw up in Ipswich on Monday. 

Lynnfield goalie Lauren McDonald registered six saves in a defensive effort. 

Head coach Kerri Doherty praised Chloe Gromko, Hayden Valiton, and Lily Alves for the defensive effort. 

“Midfield standout play was anchored by Gia Marotta who set her team up flawlessly on several offensive opportunities,” Doherty said.

The offense couldn’t get going against a tough Pentucket side. The Big Blue will look to rebound against its arch-rival Marblehead on Tuesday.

The Big Blue traveled to Georgetown and swept the Lancers out of their own gym. 

Swampscott came out strong winning the first set 25-11. Then followed it up with a 25-20 second set and a 25-21 third set to clinch the win. 

Lila Paster had a great night with 11 aces and four blocks. 

Junior Gillian Beaver and junior captain Lauren Paul each registered five kills.

In a tough road game, the Rams lost for the first time this season (5-1). The Rams lost the first set 20-25, then won the next two (25-17, 25-16), but couldn’t get it done in the fourth (24-26) or fifth (10-15) set.  

Amanda Hughes finished the game with 14 kills, eight aces, and 24 digs. Emma Chevalier recorded 22 assists, three aces, and 11 digs. 

The Rams look to get back to winning ways on Wednesday when it travels to rival Lynn English.

It was a close match between the Eagles and Catholic Memorial, but St. John’s Prep earned its second win of the season. 

Seamus O’Holleran scored a team-best 34 (1-under par) to lead the Eagles. Jack Carew and AJ Bodnar both scored a 35 in the win. 

Lynn Classical 34

The Rams (2-1) got win number two on the board after a solid performance against Everett. 

Boo DiSaia and Alex Sullivan, in the one and two positions, got Lynn Classical going early with two wins. 

 Andrew Lang, Finn Dalferro, Brayden Curley, and Braeden Ohannesian also won their respective matches to help the Rams get past Everett.

It wasn’t a great night for the Tanners losing to Northeastern Conference rival Beverly. Peabody will look to bounce back on Wednesday against Danvers.

The Spartans split the season series with the Bishops in a close match at Gannon. 

Shea Newhall (34 points), Micah Hashikawa (28), and Stephen Nason (25) led the way for the Spartans. 

With the win, St. Mary’s moved to 3-3 on the year.

Swampscott, who was led by Tyler Ostroff who shot a 37, improved to 2-4 on the season. Micahel Collins shot a 38 while Luke McGonagle, Cole Manning, and Nick Smyth shot a 39 in the win.
