SAUGUS — Founders Day, a tradition for the town, will make an appearance again this weekend on Sept. 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

The event was originally going to be held  last Saturday, Sept. 7, but it was moved to be in line with the day which it was celebrated on on its inception in 1979. 

Youth and Recreation Department Director Crystal Cakounes said that she expects lots of handmade items this year, ranging from lotions to jewelry.

Additionally, on the music end of things, Cakounes said that the Memory Laners band will be playing. the Iron Works will be holding a separate concert at 3.

For food, Cakounes said she is excited about TJ’s taste, a food truck carrying tacos and other latin flavors, alongside classics that appear every year like pizza and items from Kowloon.

Many organizations throughout the community will be in attendance at the event, such as the Saugus Cultural Council, the Boys & Girls Club, the Saugus Family YMCA, and many more.

The Theatre Company of Saugus will perform  selections from its shows in front of Town Hall, including a preview of the upcoming “Evil Dead the Musical,” for which it will be offering discounted tickets.

 At its booth, the Theatre Company of Saugus will have raffles, games, and Halloween costumes.

Close in proximity to all of the action, the library is also getting involved.

The New Friends of the Public Saugus Library will be holding a Founders Day Book Sale — residents are encouraged to drop off books that are in fair condition at the library’s circulation desk during its normal business hours. Encyclopedias, textbooks, or pamphlets will not be accepted.

The Persons of the Year awards will be given out as well, being awarded to residents who help to improve the town.

Last year, the awards went out to U.S. Navy veteran John “Jack” Klecker, and vice-regent of the Parsons Roby chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Gail Witten Cassarino.

If last year is any indication, this year’s festivities will surely be one to remember.
