Another week, another Lynn Woods series

LYNN — Back to school, no problem. This week’s Lynn Woods Race Series saw 76 runners take part in the action.

The standard kids’ race of 1.59 miles was won by 11-year-old Jennifer Matul, of Lynn, with a time of 15:43. She was followed by Melrose 8-year-old Caroline Skeirik (17:00) and Lynn 8-year-old Lindsy Matul (20:55).

The 2.2-mile Middle Road Steel Tower course became a family affair. Winthrop’s Cormac MacPhail took first (16:43) and his father, Warren, placed third (18:13). Lynn’s Alex Velasquez prevented a MacPhail sweep by placing second (17:15).

The first woman to finish was Lynn’s Leticia Chavez Romer (19:45).

The 4.60-mile Middle to Stone Tower and Back race came with “some of the toughest fire road terrain in the Lynn Woods,” according to event representative Joe Abelon.

The first four runners hailed from different cities. First was Lynn’s Bryton Osgood (34:49), followed by Salem’s David Stoffregen (34:59), Boxford’s Jeff Hixon (35:06), and Saugus’ Mark D’Amico (35:13).

Dierdre Lowe, of Salem, led all women, placing sixth overall in 36:27 on “a very tough course,” according to Abelon.

The final three sessions of the series begin at 6 p.m. For more information, visit: www.lwrun.org
