Saugus gets a break in car break-ins

[ad_1]

SAUGUS — The Police Department has reported that over the last three months, car break-ins in town are down since the same time last year.

In the past three months, there have been 18 motor-vehicle break-ins in town. Residents have posted on Facebook, expressing concern on posts of footage captured from home-surveillance cameras of intruders going through their property.

Although residents are concerned, the department reported that motor-vehicle break-ins are down from this time last year over a three-month timeframe, when there were 21 motor-vehicle break-ins.

Assistant Police Chief Ronald Giorgetti said that motor-vehicle break-ins are a “crime of opportunity,” and occur more frequently when there is warmer weather, when individuals or groups of individuals will seek out neighborhoods to commit motor-vehicle break-ins.

Giorgetti said that the department has taken measures to ensure the safety of residents’ motor vehicles and belongings.

He said that police patrols have been increased around the areas where the break-ins have taken place, and said that the department has recommendations for individuals to help increase the safety of their property.

Giorgetti said that the department recommends that residents lock their vehicles at night and remove valuables from the interior of their vehicles.

The department also recommends that residents not keep important documentation, such as licenses and credit cards, in their vehicles.
