To the editor:
I am sharing my thoughts on gun violence, the 2024 elections, the U.S. Supreme Court and U.S. Congress.
Today’s news is mostly about shootings, deaths, bullets flying in all directions, while innocent bystanders are in the crosshairs, age is no exception.
We can attribute this to gang violence, drugs, and anything in between.
Back in the day, scores were settled in streets, alleys, parks, the old fashioned way, last man standing.
Later on, we had what was called a “rumble,” that was a big deal!
Mothers all cried out, “This has to stop!” No more tears to shed.
Comments by mayors and other authorities, “this will not be tolerated, perpetrators will be held accountable”
The people who commit these crimes don’t know or care one bit, and most likely have never heard any such words. The worst is that some teenagers are settling scores with firearms.
What’s the answer? More use of technology, manpower, informants, help from the public.
Most police departments are not fully staffed, they are doing their best, they can’t be on every street corner.
As far as the election, most people see or hear on the news Trump versus Biden.
Trump, what can I say, we all know who he is, he can’t put a complete sentence together without insulting someone.
He says it was rigged, election interference, Biden’s the worst president that we ever had, they’re all corrupt, it’s a witch hunt, we did nothing wrong, terrible people, just terrible, did not pay.
Love him or hate him, there’s no middle ground.
Biden, if you watched the debate, it does appear the president has some difficulties that many older people experience.
Now his own party is piling on to ask him to step down. Sorry, it’s too late for that.
My guess is they are worried about their own skin. Stop tripping over each other guys!
Let the president and Trump go at it again and hope it’s not a free for all!
For the Supreme Court, I won’t get into all the details, however recently there’s been many issues the court has dealt with, some controversial. Not everyone is happy, that’s how it goes.
There’s one thing that comes to mind. Justice Clarence Thomas is a man who’s been on the bench for over 30 years. He’s very knowledgeable and should know the rules of conduct for all the justices.
When it was noted that he did not disclose his private luxury trips, he went back to 2019 and did disclose those trips.
Recently, more trips came to light in years past, suddenly it was back 13 years.
What is most troubling was his answer that it was a misunderstanding.
Misunderstanding?? How can a man in his position provide such an answer?
A show of hands anyone? No? I guess it’s okay.
Not to worry folks, they will keep an eye on the henhouse.
Guess it’s the old saying, nothing to see here folks, move along, nothing to see here!
Congress, it’s been pretty quiet up there gentlemen, anything going on in the halls? Word is there’s lots of noise. Just as I thought, it’s only the ones who are tripping over each other trying to get in line to replace the president.
Gentleman take your sneakers off and stop meeting in closets or the restroom. He’s not going anywhere!
