A rockin’ summer gets underway at Red Rock Park

LYNN — Red Rock Park was packed with people on the eve of the Fourth of July, as the Dirty Floorboards started off the Summer Entertainment Series with a big bang.

Created by the Friends of Lynn and Nahant Beach, the series at Red Rock Park is in its 25th year.

Colin Kennedy, guitarist and vocalist for the Dirty Floorboards, talked about kicking off the eight-week series and said he was thrilled to play on an exciting night for such a diverse crowd.

He said that the band plays whatever they think the crowd will want to hear.

“Originally we only did classic rock, and as we started going along, we started having more and more fun with picking things that catered toward the crowd of the place we’re going,” Kennedy said.

Kennedy gave an example, saying that there’s usually a younger crowd when playing in Salem, so the band’s setlist is mainly music from the 1990s and 2000s.

If they play at a VFW, Kennedy said they’re jamming to classic rock.

“Tonight, we’re going to try and do as many songs that we think people will know the words to,” Kennedy said. “And we know it’s going to be a very diverse crowd tonight, so we got a little bit of something for everybody.”

The Dirty Floorboards played an array of covers from a range of decades on Wednesday night, and ended the set around 9 p.m., when the fireworks started blasting into the sky for Independence Day.

The next concert in the series is All That 90’s on July 11 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Each night of the series is free to attend, and more information regarding performances can be found at lynn-nahantbeach.org/events
